We tell you how to create a Kahoot! to use in your class: on any topic and for any course, it will allow your students to learn.

We’ve already talked about the benefits of using Kahoot! in the classroom, a great tool for gammatizing the classroom and making your students learn while having fun. There are several ways to apply it in the teacher’s daily life: one is to take advantage of existing quizzes and quizzes and another is to create a Kahoot! customized to your interests.

How to create a Kahoot!

This second one is obviously ideal for all environments, since the teacher includes the questions that are most appropriate for his or her group of students. Instead of opting for a collection of questions and answers created by other teachers, if you are encouraged to create a Kahoot! you will be able to make the most of the tool’s potential in your classroom.

The procedure is very simple and anyone can do it, regardless of their computer or technological knowledge. Just follow these steps:

Sign up for Kahoot!

We already mentioned at the time that Kahoot! is divided into two pages: Kahoot.it and GetKahoot.com. The first one is for joining a game, while the second one is the real command center, where the teacher can start a Kahoot!, use others’ or create his own.

The first step is, of course, to register with Kahoot! To do so, go to the main page and click on “Sign up for free!” or follow this link. Follow the steps and instructions, confirm the account through the email that will be sent to you, and that’s it.

Once you have your account active you can log in to the platform to access a website like the one above to search for content created by other users and start it. But you can also create a Kahoot! from scratch through the three options below

Create a Kahoot !: the quiz

Quiz is the Anglo-Saxon term used for the more traditional Kahoot! However, we encourage you to try the other two possibilities (discussion and survey) which can also be very interesting to use in class.

Create a Kahoot !: the quiz

Clicking on “Quiz” will take us directly to the page to create it, something similar to what you have up here. In this first step we will have to fill in the fields requested: title, description, language, target audience, etc. When we have it, we click on the green button at the top right to continue.

We’ll have the Kahoot! created, but no questions asked. This next window will ask us to add the questions, with an equally very intuitive and easy to use interface. We click on “Add question” and the platform will ask us some data about the question, as shown in the following image:

  • Question: the question you want to ask your students
  • Time limit, default 20 seconds (this will partly depend on the difficulty)
  • Possible answers, at least two and up to four. You must click on the ‘tick’ to mark which ones are correct.
  • Resources to give credit, in the case where you want to expand the information of the question.
  • Media: add an image or a video. This is very interesting for contextualizing the question, and can also be used to pose questions around the inserted image or video.

Once you have filled in these details, the screen should look something like this:

Step by step: how to create a Kahoot! 1

To continue, click “Next” and the question will be added to your Kahoot!

You will need to create more questions repeating the last steps and until you consider it necessary. Once you have it it will be saved in the « My Kahoots » section of the main page , and you can play it whenever you want.

Recommendations and tricks to create a good Kahoot! Spanish!

To obtain the best results it is ideal to prepare the Kahoot! well, for which we give you a series of recommendations and tricks:

  • If you are going to apply it in the classroom it is probably because you want to reinforce some concepts already seen in class. Review your lesson and what you “gave”, to add the best questions on the subject. Lean on paper and pen to choose the best material.
  • Kahoot! is so versatile that you can do it on a specific lesson or topic, or on an entire subject. You can even do it across the board, using questions on all subjects.
  • How many questions are suitable? It depends a lot on the subject and its magnitude, as well as on the students; here I recommend you to try from less to more. 10 questions is a good number to start with, but up to 20 is an interesting number.
  • Use the multimedia resources that Kahoot! allows you to insert, especially the images. They can be accessory, or you can also use them to ask your questions. For example, what mathematical function does this graph correspond to?
  • Kahoot! is based on the community: just as others turn over their quizzes so that anyone can use them, it is ideal that we all share our creations by publishing them. This requires them to be well described and defined, adding information about the school, course, subjects you teach, etc.

Creating a Kahoot! for class is very simple. What are your tricks? Tell us in the comments!

How to find the best Kahoots to use in class

In addition to creating your own Kahoot!, one of the most interesting features of this platform is that anyone can share their creations with other users. Therefore, we can access a huge library of Kahoot! created by teachers from around the world and search, from all of these, the ones that best suit our interests.

  • Go to the Discover section to find other Kahoots!
  • A search box will appear. You can try entering the keywords you want (e.g. Math, Language, Music, or Primary, Secondary, etc.)
  • Once some search results appear, a few filters will also appear that we can use: by type of Kahoot!, by user creator, by target audience or the most interesting one, the language one.
