The paper and pen thing is being relegated to the background as new technological solutions emerge with which to evaluate students differently.

Tools To Evaluate Students

We propose 20 tools to evaluate students through computers, tablets or even smartphones, with games and personalized tests to review from one lesson to a whole subject.

Tools To Evaluate Students

Socrative

With a great compatibility (iOS/Android and Chrome browsers), at Socrative we will be able to launch quiz competitions in a trivial way, so that our students can participate in them. Since it requires a previous registration (there are teacher and student accounts), all the information can be recorded and followed by the teacher, who can check the evolution of his pupils at any time. There are hundreds of quizzes already created by members of the community but more can be created easily.

Plickers

With a flawless presentation, Plickers is a platform for evaluating students in multiple ways that seeks to be as immediate as possible. For example, we can ask them a question and they will respond by raising a card with a code that we will read through the camera of a smartphone or tablet, with a specific app that will correct the answers of each student giving us all the information instantly. And this is just the beginning: in Plickers we can create classes to keep track of the students’ progress or launch questions with different types of answers. And best of all, it’s free!

Kahoot!

This is an online platform that mixes gameplay with entertainment and fun. Kahoot! allows us to create online quizzes in which students can participate, either individually or as a team. The teacher is responsible for creating a set of questions, along with their respective answers, which will not always be true. Students will have to determine which answers they consider valid. At the end of the game, there is a ranking with the best players of each game, which can be used to evaluate the set. To make our own quizzes you can take ideas from the thousands of Kahoot! already created.

EDPuzzle

We already refer to EDPuzzle as the tool that wants to revolutionize the world of video in education. Not only does it allow us to create videos and add text or comments to them, we can also evaluate students in a simple way. For example, by adding certain questions throughout the video, the platform records the answers of each student so that we can later determine their level of understanding regarding the subject.

Google Forms

This is one of the many tools (Formstack, Formdesk, Wufoo, JotForm and LimeSurvey, among others) that allow you to easily create online forms for content evaluation. We will need, of course, to create a form according to the objective we want to set, but once created, we will have all the information in a spreadsheet that will allow us to play with all this information, get statistics or correct them almost automatically.

Edmodo

The Facebook of education, Edmodo, allows you to create highly customizable tests to evaluate the level of students in a certain subject or theme. They can be questions with different types of answers, all automated and with a step-by-step guide in which they tell us how to do it, and it is integrated, so it is easier, impossible. If you already use Edmodo, one of the most successful educational platforms, it’s probably worth a look.

Trivinet

Designed to create your own trivia, over time Trivinet has positioned itself on the more educational side by allowing both students and teachers to develop their own questions and answers. This can also be used for evaluation purposes, since you can create a specific trivia for your students, adapted to the lesson and subject you want.

Nearpod

Although it is actually much more complete, one of the features of Nearpod is that it also allows you to assess students through, for example, a mobile device or tablet, or a computer. The teacher can create a lesson customized to all you want, and from it, develop a series of tests and questions with which to know the knowledge acquired by their students.

Formative

One of the most unusual tools is Formative, an app that allows you to send questions, lessons and all kinds of material to students so that they can solve them instantly via their tablets. Best of all, the teacher will see in real time the answers of each of his students, which will allow him to evaluate them immediately.

Flipquiz

Once again, the question and answer games attack with Flipquiz, a platform specially designed for the education sector where a teacher can create a quiz and send it to his students, who will play it individually or in a group, as if it were a contest. If the teams are well configured, it can be a very fun and educational moment in the classroom.

Mentimeter

Without registration and free of charge, this platform allows the creation of surveys by including first the question and then the different answers from which the students must choose the correct one. It provides a management panel that makes any modification possible and from which the final results can also be checked. It can be accessed through the computer or from a tablet or Smartphone.

Quizalize

From their PCs or mobile devices, this solution enables the creation of online exams from scratch, or taking one created by a third party, with the questions that students must answer (in the classroom or at home). The teacher can follow the process in real time through the Teacher Panel, giving points to the students who answer the questions correctly in the first place. The total score is given when all the participants have finished.

Edulastic

Through its 30 types of interactive and multimedia questions, the teacher can create online questionnaires in which to include additional content both fixed (text, images or graphics) and moving (video). It also allows the embedding of web links. Once the students finish answering the questions, the teacher receives the results immediately along with a comparison with the established standards.

Quizzizz

This free gambling platform enables teachers to create online tests and send them to students via their web browser. For its edition, it has two modalities, live and at home, and can be customized based on several criteria such as the number of answers or the time to answer them. After completion, the teacher receives a report with the results of each student and the class, with which to determine the points to be improved.

Classkick

From his web page, the teacher can create a personalized task for each student, or a generic one for the whole class, and follow its development through his device. In this way, he can evaluate how his students complete each exercise or see if the answers are correct. At the end of the process, you receive a document with all the results. A mobile version is available, suitable only for iOS-enabled handsets.

Type Form

It offers the possibility of creating online forms and surveys with different templates. The free version allows you to create up to 10 questions and 100 answers per month, as well as reports, templates and download data; if teachers require more content they must create a paid account. Another feature is that you can add multiple answers, insert documents and share the exam through a link

Online Quiz Creator

The platform presents different tools to make a virtual questionnaire. You have the option to insert statistics, position tables, images, text questions and multiple correct answers. The ‘exam’ option is prepared exclusively for exams, and the answers determine whether the student passes or fails. It is available for computers, tablets and mobile phones; it includes a free 7-day trial and allows content to be shared, via a link, on social networks.

Blicker

This application is created from two perspectives: ‘teacher’ and ‘students’. It allows for quick interaction between teacher and student, allowing for anonymous, identified and competitive polls. It also has the option of attendance: in this way the teacher collects the data of the students who have missed class.

Classflow

It is an online platform that gives the option to create virtual and interactive lessons with students. After each student completes these chapters, the teacher has the possibility to create tests based on the lessons and subject matter in order to evaluate and know the learning acquired by each student.

Educaplay

Created with a specific objective: to create, organize and share multimedia and educational content. It covers 14 different types of activities and tasks to promote interactive learning based on stimulating student participation. The student undergoes different gamma tasks, while the teacher receives information about the activity and statistics on its evolution. Among its characteristics, it is worth mentioning that the teacher can configure some parameters such as number of attempts or time limit; and integrate these contents in other platforms and virtual classrooms (through HTML code).
